Dr. Clayton Petro completed his general surgery training at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and Abdominal Wall Reconstruction Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic where he was subsequently hired as a staff surgeon 3 years ago. During the past 10 years, he has consistently been involved with highly productive basic science and clinical research teams as a primary or co-investigator, culminating in >100 peer-reviewed publications. His work has helped establish the effectiveness of new surgical techniques, challenged surgical dogma regarding patient comorbidities, and has utilized surgical registries to complete studies in an efficient and cost-effective manner. He is currently the PI of 3 randomized controlled trials which aim to investigate the effectiveness of various robotic ventral hernia repair techniques, mechanisms of parastomal hernia repair, and the utility of anterior gastropexy for paraesophageal hernia repair.
