Course Details

For healthcare educators, simulation researchers, simulation center staff, directors, or faculty of a current or prospective simulation program.

  • Eligible credits: 1.5 online modules + 14.75 onsite workshop AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
  • Course duration: Online + 2 days.
  • Course time: 8 am – 4:30 pm both days.
  • Location: Cleveland Clinic Simulation and Advanced Skills Center Main Campus.

Led by highly experienced Cleveland Clinic’s Simulation and Advanced Skills Center Faculty, the course combines online foundational simulation-based material and onsite experiential learning with practice and feedback. Attendees join a growing community of informed simulation educators who continue to network and share experiences in the field. The program emphasizes hands-on activities and active participation to maximize simulation-based instruction skill acquisition. Class group sizes are kept small to allow for maximum participation. The primary audience for this course is healthcare educators looking to implement best practices in simulation facilitation and debriefing; strategies and techniques.

Format

Designed for the busy healthcare educator with limited time, the Simulation and Advanced Skills Center Simulation Educator Workshop boasts a blended learning approach that combines standard simulation best practices online education modules followed by hands on application with real-time feedback from trained faculty. The online component was recently updated to provide/review (4) areas: Introduction to Simulation, Prebriefing and Preparing, Facilitation, Debriefing. Once onsite, daily formats vary and include small and large group discussions, practical exercises with feedback, and scenario building with practice facilitating a scenario from pre-brief to debrief.

Online self-study (1 ½ hours)
Prerequisite asynchronous learning begins one month before onsite workshop. The self-study takes approximately 1 ½ hours to complete. The online study includes:

  • Introduction to simulation.
  • Prebriefing and preparing.
  • Facilitation.
  • Debriefing.

Onsite workshop (two days)
Held at the Cleveland Clinic main campus in Cleveland, Ohio, the onsite workshop includes:

  • Adult and experimental learning theory application.
  • Reflective feedback discussions.
  • Explore fundamentals of debriefing.
  • Dissect the phases of debriefing.
  • Practice facilitating scenarios and skills/procedural based training.
  • Learn and apply advocacy/inquiry techniques within debriefing.

Registration

Registration is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. Teams from the same organization are welcome to attend.

Tuition (non-Cleveland Clinic only)

Tuition of $1,250.00 includes online materials for the online self-study, two-day interactive workshop, parking, and lunch on both days.
